One Day Leaf Collection – Week of March 20th

The Village of Tolono will conduct a one-day leaf collection the week of March 20th, weather permitting of the day. Leaves will be collected by our leaf vacuum truck.

  • To avoid obstructing drainage and causing equipment damage, place leaves at curbside:
    • not in the drainage ditches or on drainage grates,
    • not on the sidewalks or edges of driveways and streets (but also not so far into yards that equipment vacuums can’t reach the leaves).
    • not over water meter covers or sewer caps, and
    • not over any other obstructions or items that may be sucked into the vacuum truck.
  • Do not mix leaves with trash, pumpkins, limbs, brush, sticks, rocks, bricks, or the like. Leaves containing these materials may be bypassed in order to prevent equipment damage and collection delays.
  • Do not wet leaves. Frozen leaves may damage vacuum equipment.
  • Do not block leaf piles with vehicles.
  • If you notice drainage grates clogged in your area, please call 217-485-5212 to request cleaning.

Village Board Meeting, October 4th to Discuss Bourne Street Railroad Crossing

Norfolk Southern Railroad wants to close the Bourne Street railroad crossing permanently. Their reasoning is that the Bourne Street crossing is only about 800 feet from the Elizabeth Street crossing.
By Norforlk Southern’s definition, the Bourne St crossing is a redundant crossing. The two crossings are too close together. Currently, they are giving residents twice the amount of opportunity to make a trip across the tracks which increases the likelihood of someone getting injured or killed by one of their trains.
There will be a discussion at the Village Board meeting October 4, 2022, 6:30PM at the Tolono Police Department, 205 E Main St, to discuss the closure.
We urge you to come to the meeting and make your voice heard. Comments to this post on social media are not conducive in assisting our Village Board in making this decision.
