Side-by-Sides & Golf Carts

The Village of Tolono wants to remind everyone that Side-By-Side off-highway devices must be registered with the Village before they can be driven on our streets as do all golf carts.

The fine for failure to secure a permit when operating a golf cart and/or recreational off-highway device on Village streets is $250.

If you have any questions please call Village Hall at 217-485-5212.

Leaf Collection

The Village of Tolono will conduct leaf collection on April 6th and 7th, and again on April 13th and 14th, weather permitting. Leaves will be collected by our leaf vacuum truck.

  • To avoid obstructing drainage and causing equipment damage, place leaves at curbside:
    • not in the drainage ditches or on drainage grates,
    • not on the sidewalks or edges of driveways and streets (but also not so far into yards that equipment vacuums can’t reach the leaves).
    • not over water meter covers or sewer caps, and
    • not over any other obstructions or items that may be sucked into the vacuum truck.
  • Do not mix leaves with trash, pumpkins, limbs, brush, sticks, rocks, bricks, or the like. Leaves containing these materials may be bypassed in order to prevent equipment damage and collection delays.
  • Do not wet leaves. Frozen leaves may damage vacuum equipment.
  • Do not block leaf piles with vehicles.
  • If you notice drainage grates clogged in your area, please call 217-485-5212 to request cleaning.

Sidewalk Replacement

Sidewalk panels throughout the Village of Tolono have been removed for either repair or replacement. Once these areas are removed, they are marked with yellow caution tape. Please use caution when walking or running in these areas. If the sidewalk repair/replacement is in or around your driveway, these residents may need to make plans to park elsewhere.

Sidewalk replacement will continue this week through next, pending weather (12/7-12/18). If there are sidewalk panels with a blue “X” in front of your home, please be sure to make room so the contractor can get to these areas to remove and replace.

Once the concrete is poured we ask that you do not walk or drive on the area for at least 48 hours.

Thank you!

Notice to the Residents of Tolono Regarding Trash Service

The Village is not making everyone switch to Republic for trash service. There was a presentation at the Village Board meeting on January 21, 2020, by a representative from Republic as to how a Franchise Agreement would work. He spoke under the Public Comments portion of the meeting, like anyone else can. On Facebook, you can go back and watch the replay of the Board meetings.

If the Board started looking further into a Franchise Agreement, there would be a Public Hearing to gather the thoughts of the residents surrounding the matter before we would proceed. If we did proceed, we could not just call Republic and give them the contract. We would have to compose a bid document with everything we want in a contract, and companies would have to send in their bid for service.

If you have questions, we urge you to call the Village Hall or watch the February 4, 2020, Board meeting on Facebook live replay for clarification from the Board and not rely on what is being put out by other groups and social media.
